About this assignment

We have 2 dogs, a Belgian Shepherd cross and a red heeler cross, both who get big (about 1 hour) walks in the bush nearby every day, as well as 4 rainbow lorikeets and 4 eclectus parrots. The walks in the forest are marked with flagging tapes so there is no concern about getting lost. The birds are very friendly and love their people time. They live in two large aviaries that get cleaned every day. Our house is in the rain forest near Cairns (about 40 minutes by car) and the area is beautiful and green. Gardens normally need little work during the wetter months but the veranda plants need some watering and general simple care once a week. The village of Kuranda is a tourist destination as well as the Barron Falls nearby, and the Atherton Tablelands about an hours' drive from Kuranda so there is lots to see in the local area. Shopping is about 15 minutes away by car at Smithfield Shopping Center where there are two supermarkets, a K Mart and lots of the usual shopping center type shops. There is also a small supermarket in Kuranda. This house sit is best suited to a couple who enjoying walking and are early risers, as bird duties begin at about 7:30. Animal jobs normally take no more than 3 hours total, a day, considerably less, if shared.
